Jaguar XJ virtual instruments
Simple, logical, intuitive control
As a designer at Imagination, I began working with Jaguar Landrover’s HMI team on in-car virtual interfaces including the dashboard of the new Jaguar XJ, launched in 2010.
The challenge was to match the XJ’s fluid, contemporary style, Design Director Ian Callum’s vision for Jaguar in the 21st century.
Instrument cluster
Materials, textures and lighting design within the XJ’s interior influenced the design of the digital interface. The roundels of the intrument cluster extend within a three dimensional space inside the dashboard. As the design progressed I began to look at motion sketches for transitions, builds and menus.

Touchscreen
The XJ features an innovative, ‘Dual-View’ touchscreen that can project DVD movies or television programmes to the passenger while the driver views vehicle functions or satellite navigation. This was an example of functionality I helped to prototype in the XF Concept whilst at Imagination.
